Careers
Our aim is to ensure all students are able to make an informed choice for their future learning and careers in preparation for when they leave King Harold Academy, ensuring our students achieve success at all levels.
Mrs Hammond is a qualified Careers Adviser and has a Level 6 qualification in Careers, Education and Guidance, and is available in the Careers Office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week during lunchtime and after school.
We have an established careers programme delivered through our PHSE lessons. In Years 7 to 11 we encourage students to explore and consider their options and pathways available to them. KS4 students take part in our Work Experience programme, Mock Interview Day and Careers Events; lessons include CV advice on how to write and create a CV, application forms and letters of application. In KS3 students complete career lessons to raise students aspirations through self-development, career wellbeing and employability. Our students also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of careers events including our annual Careers Fair in partnership with our local schools and FE college, Breakfast for Business, and higher education workshops and trips through the Make Happen Programme.
Our students have access to:
- One-to-one impartial Careers Advice and Guidance in Year 11.
- Group interviews for Year 10.
- Year 9 options interview
- A planned careers curriculum delivered through PHSE lessons in Period 1
- Advice and guidance on applying for Apprenticeships, Sixth form and College courses, including researching careers, finding courses, applications and writing personal statements
- Assemblies from Further Education providers, Apprenticeships through Essex County Council and National Citizen Service.
- Access to online careers programme Job Explorer Database for career exploration
The Careers Library is open at break and lunch times and after school and is fully resourced with books, information and local college/sixth form prospectuses. There is IT access, and students can research colleges, sixth forms, universities, apprenticeships and job opportunities.
The school regularly assesses the impact of the careers programme and follows the guidelines from the Eight Gatsby Benchmarks. This is monitored by assessments from students, parents, employers and staff. This could be through evaluations, destination data, pastoral support feedback and an annual improvement review.
The Careers Department hold a vital role in school, making sure that each student is equipped with the necessary skills and information to go onto further education or out into the world of work.
If you are able to offer a two week work experience placement or take part in our Mock Interview programme please contact:
