How can King Harold Academy support my child/ young person?

When families and/ or a young person who attends King Harold Academy is struggling to cope there is a variety of support that can be offered. Please see the list below.

We recognise that the least invasive option is the first port of call (when appropriate) to ensure that there isn’t a reliance upon services. This does not mean that services or support options cannot be put in place.

List of support:

Head of Year support: This may mean a check in with a Head of Year to outline difficulties and understand how we can support. This may include friendship difficulties or struggles in lessons.

Welfare support: Any student is welcome to see their Form Tutor, Head of Year, ACE tutor (if applicable) or a member of the Behaviour team to discuss how they are feeling. We recognise the importance of balance and that attending lessons is vital therefore the first option is to attend in either lunch or break time or at the start of the day.

If specific complex risk needs to be considered this may require more intensive support along with risk assessment plans being put in place to ensure the young person is supported appropriately.

Intervention support: We offer specific tailored interventions regarding certain areas of need including social emotional mental health, emotional regulation, and attendance concerns. We recognise that this can be a complex issue and we always aim to deliver support that is in line with both the young wellbeing persons needs and educational outcomes.

Team around the Family (TAF): A team around the family meeting is set with parent and professionals to understand if additional services are needed. The meeting allows for a space where all professionals and parents are together to understand how best to support the needs. Ongoing meetings are set on a specific time basis to agree to areas that need to be worked upon. This is a space for parents to work with professionals and contribute to the changes needed for their young person. A TAF is considered on a case-by-case basis.

Safeguarding support: We acknowledge and recognise the importance of keeping young people safe and will endeavour to work in partnership with parents where possible. If you have any safeguarding concerns for your child, please contact the main telephone line and ask to speak with a member of the safeguarding team.
